Job Title: Carpenter

APPRENTICE 1ST YR TO 4TH YR. & JOURNEYMAN

Job Overview

The Carpenter is responsible for constructing primarily commercial use structures. This includes building items such as concrete formwork (foundation footings, walls, columns, suspended slabs) stairs, making repairs to the internal and external structures and ensuring buildings/ structures are safe.

Knowledge of commercial & (some residential) construction and safe work practices, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment, materials, quality control, and general construction Safety. The Carpenter should be proficient at the following tasks: concrete forming, application of general carpentry principles, as well as reading blueprints, and layout for concrete formwork.

Job Duties

· Application of carpentry principles

· Following Safe work procedures

· Building, Pouring, Stripping concrete forms.

· Layout building foundations.

· Operate and maintain carpentry tools and equipment.

· Maintaining Daily logs

· Maintaining a preventative maintenance schedule

· Build other items as required.

· Set up scaffolding as needed.

· Understand and comply with all Company / OHS Policies and Procedures

· Respect and respond to direction given by supervision.

· Contribute and participate in the effective use of the Quality Control System

· Participate in corporate Loss Reduction Program and principles.

· Perform other related duties, including minor duties of other trades where certification is not required, and the work does not exceed own limitations.

· Participate in the training of junior carpenters as required and requested.

Core Requirements

· Certificate of Carpenter Apprenticeship, or Journeyman ticket

· 2-5 years of Construction & Carpentry experience

· Strong Knowledge of workplace safety, OHS Regulations, and safe work procedures.

· Makes suggestions for improvement.

· Knowledge of carpentry and safe operation of basic hand and power tools

· Participate in site Health & Safety program.

· Able to follow all directions from supervision.

· Report on unsafe working conditions immediately assisting in the reduction of losses.

· Effective verbal and listening communications skills.

· Avoid unnecessary conflict.

· Ability to work in a team environment with minimum supervision.

· Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner.

Additional Requirements

· Ability to read building specifications, and blueprints.

Work Conditions

· A job requires ability to perform tasks on all areas and aspects of construction project.

· Exposure to changing year-round weather conditions (High seasonal temperatures, sun, rain, wind, to Low seasonal temperatures including snow).

· Use of Personal Protection Equipment will always be required. (Hard hat, Steel toe boots, High Visibility vest, Hearing & Eye protection) and others as required.

· Exposure to heavy equipment operation.

· Requires ability to climb ladders, work at heights of up to 100 feet.

· Hazards associated with the construction industry.

· Ability to lift and manipulate objects of up to 80 lbs. for 50 feet.

· A job requires the ability to work with tools, equipment, lumber, and materials.

· Travel & Overtime as required.

Job Title: Project Coordinator (Management)

Collaborates with: Senior Project Manager/Estimator & Construction Superintendent

General Job Description

The Project Coordinator will support Senior Project Manager/Project Manager, and Construction Superintendent both in the field & office to provide administrative support as required to assist, manage and deliver the project from pre-contract through to delivery and commissioning.

The Project Coordinator is responsible for the following tasks:

  • Assists the Senior Project Manager and Superintendent with overall project performance including cost, schedule, safety and quality.
  • Assists in overall construction coordination, planning and identifying potential risks and resolving field technical issues.
  • Performs quantity takeoffs and surveys to manage contract progress and reporting.
  • Develops and maintains excellent relationships with our trade partners through activities such as issuing tender packages, defining scopes of work, answering inquires and monitoring progress.
  • Assists with change management and change order process, including pricing, processing, and assessing cost and schedule impact.
  • Administers request for information and shop drawing and submittal process.
  • Assists with pre-commissioning or commissioning.
  • Assists with overall project closeout, including archiving documents, maintenance, and warranty.
  • Identifies and assists in resolving field technical issues.
  • Assists the Senior Project Manager with awarding subcontracts, managing procurement schedules, ordering and tracking of materials; including providing PO as applicable.
  • Assist with review of production, updating schedules, review labour reports and assess performance complete. Forecast upcoming work and communications between trades and client.
  • Maintain daily communication with Site Superintendents and record daily construction activity.
  • Archiving of project binders, drawings and relevant documents for close jobs.
  • Attend project coordination and client, architect, engineer and design meetings as required.
  • Record accurate meeting minutes and circulate to attendee.

Skills/Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of construction industry experience.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry including equipment and techniques, drawings and specifications, building materials, quality, safety, construction sequences and building code.
  • Ability to apply basic engineering and problem-solving principles to construction challenges and present solutions.
  • Ability to create a comprehensive schedule and administer subcontracts and contract documents.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite with a strong aptitude for adopting new technology.
  • Ability to work independently and work as part of a team.

Measurement of Performance:

  • All project documentation and correspondence are current and filed correctly within Project Management software and systems.
  • RFI’s, submittals, SI’s are all filed, logged and actioned promptly under direction of Senior Project Manager/Superintendent.
  • All financial data, payroll hours, invoices, progress billing, receipts and payments are reviewed within correct timeframes to ensure book keeping can keep data current.
  • All reporting required by Senior Project Manager is completed within directed timeframes.
  • All Quality Control documents are completed at key stages of the project.

All other tasks, as requested by the Owner/General Manager or other management, are completed in a timely manner with obvious initiative, cheerful attitude and habit of going the extra mile.
